I want to attract your attention toward a day to day phenomenon of our lives. We have seen that when water dries again and again in our buckets or bath tubs, a scaling is formed which is very hard to remove. For removing it we have to use acid. In case of injectors water is not causing scaling, rather it is petrol. The scaling formed by the hydrocarbons are far more stringent compared to the one formed by water. Besides they are baked with the chamber heat and become more stubborn. Internationally there are three methods used for the cleaning of dirty injectors
1- Fuel Additives
2- On car injector cleaning machine
3- Ultrasonic cleaning
Everyone knows how the fuel additives work. Fuel additives are basically strong solvents which are added to the fuel. When fuel mixed with this additive passes through the injectors, it dissolves the scaling formed in the pintle of injector to a little extent.
The machine mentioned above at number 2- is somewhat a separate fuel system which sends cleaning solvent mixed with fuel to the engine. The solvent passes through the fuel rail, injectors and make cleaning. While working with this machine our fuel system is disabled and the engine runs on this machine which sends the pressurized fuel mixed with cleaning solvent to the engine.
To me, both of these systems are the same. The only difference which I could figure out is, that the solvents (which are strong enough to dissolve the hydrocarbon scales) are added to the fuel, pass through fuel filter and could cause harm to it while the on car injector cleaning machine is directly attached to the fuel rail and the filter is bypassed.
In both of the above methods only partial cleaning is done. The disadvantage in above methods is that the solvent itself and the harsh particles of scales removed by the solvent, travel inside the engine.
Ultrasonic cleaning is internationally accepted MOST effective process for cleaning fuel injectors. It is cheap hassle free and comprehensive solution for the injector clogging problem. The cleaning agents used in ultrasonic cleaning are aqueous and cause no harm to the metals. Fuel Injectors have tiny holes on their tips to spray petrol. They get clogged due to fuel deposits. Cavitation process in ultrasonic cleaning is capable to clean in microscopic holes, cracks and grooves hence prove to be the best remedy for the clogging problem.
Keeping exceptions aside, a car can keep on running for 200k or might even more without injector cleaning. But the scaling in the injectors never stops. Its more so with the car which ply for short distances in one go. Because they start more often and turn off more often, every time they stop the petrol dries on tiny nozzle of the injector and leave behind deposits and every next time the engine starts, the heat makes it more permanent. The user can’t realize it because his car is running. But this clogging reduces the pickup of the car, effects fuel economy and makes it unfriendly environmentally.
As per western standards EFI automobiles usually require fuel injector servicing after 20k miles. Considering our climate and fuel quality i recommend fuel injector cleaning after 20k kms. In our country the users are not aware of this requirement. Their cars grow uneconomical on fuel, lose power, generate more pollution run below their optimum ability and even wear faster due to inefficient injectors where injectors can be serviced easily and can perform as new once again.
